Jay is the inventor of several technologies in the molecular biology, microfluidic and diagnostic arena. He has created numerous commercial products and led the development of commercial operations as a company founder.

Jay co-founded Arcxis Biotechnologies in 2005 which was eventually sold in 2010. As the Sr. Director of R&D, he led the group who developed transformative innovations at Fluidigm, including C1, and Polaris systems, enabling a variety of novel single cell and genomic base workflows. He has an extensive publication record which includes, Nature Biotechnology, Cell, Nature Neuroscience and Science.

Jay has a BS from UMass Amherst, a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from UC Davis, and performed post-doctoral studies at Lawrence Livermore Laboratories.
