Group Leader Wellcome Sanger Institute and Stem Cell Institute / Consultant Haemato-oncologist Cambridge University NHS Trust, UK

Dr Jyoti Nangalia received her medical degree and first class BA from Cambridge University. She subsequently trained clinically in haematology and haemato-oncology. She received her PhD at the University of Cambridge and the Wellcome Sanger Institute with a focus on the genetic changes that occur in cancers, during which time she discovered CALR mutations as a causative genetic driver of blood cancers. CALR mutation testing in hospitals is now routine in clinical practice internationally.

She runs a research group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and another at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute at Cambridge University. Her group focuses on understanding the changes in our DNA over life and how these relate to health, ageing and age-related diseases.

Clinically, she is a practising Consultant haematolo-oncologist in Cambridge, United Kingdom and a national expert in the treatment of chronic blood cancers and cancer genomics.
